| The NQCA is an initiative that grew out of two key considerations: that the north Queensland region is particularly exposed to climate change impacts; and that all sectors of the community need to be engaged in responding to the issue irrespective of their ideological or political leanings.
The NQCA is an informal alliance of organisations and individuals dedicated to facilitating communication, collaboration and action in response to climate change and sustainability across all sectors of the north Queensland community, from individuals to business, from community groups to government. Our key focus is positive action.
Founded in 2006 by a diverse group of local organisations, the NQCA believes our region has a key role to play in demonstrating proactive leadership in response to climate change. As custodians of two world heritage areas and being the world's premier eco-tourism destination, our region has a special responsibility to ensure we play an active role in reducing the threat of climate change.
We act independently of special interests and political affiliations.
Our Mission
To facilitate positive actions across all sectors of our community to reduce our regions contribution to climate change and to assist our community and environment to adapt to climate change impacts.
Our Approach:
Community inclusive - to inspire and support our community to take positive local action.
Action-based - to lead by example and deliver measurable outcomes.
Regionally focused - to assist our region to play its part in arresting and responding to climate change.
Healthy environment & prosperous economy - to develop profitable, practical and transferable processes to support a climate friendly prosperous regional economy.
Learning, sharing, complementing - to learn from others, share our knowledge, to complement and build upon existing initiatives.
Politically neutral – the NQCA recognises the need for all of our community to work together to address this threat, and as such is a politically neutral space for positive engagement. |
